Apple Cranberry Sauce

A variation of the traditional apple sauce this sauce is great with a pork roast, fresh ham, or turkey.


  • 12 oz. fresh cranberries

  • 4 tart apples (Granny Smiths are great) peeled, cored and chopped

  • 1 orange - peeled and cut up into small pieces and reserve the juice

  • 1/2 cup dried apricots chopped

  • 1/4 tsp. minced fresh ginger

  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

  • 4 Tbsp. sugar or sugar substitute


  • Place all ingredients except the sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat.

  • Cover and reduce heat and cook until most of the liquid is absorbed and the fruits are very soft.

  • Add sugar to taste - it may not need 4 Tbs.

  • Cool and store in a jar or plastic container in the refrigerator
