WHAT IS PHYLLIS 2.0?

Updated: Jul 31, 2019

When I announced my plan to retire to my friends, my friend Patti Remshifski asked, “So what is the Phyllis 2.0 going to look like?” It really got me to thinking, what would it look like? and what would I be doing? Well, I did it. As of September 1, 2018, I retired after 31 years in education, 18 years teaching, 13 years as an administrator and several years before that at home raising my girls; I was more than ready for part II. This decision however did not happen over night. My husband and I had talked about retirement over the last couple of years, but about a year ago the discussion became more serious. We lived in a 4 bedroom house, with a beautiful yard in a nice suburban neighborhood. It was a great place to raise a family. Both of my daughters though are now grown with families of their own and the house started to feel a bit too big. For the first time in our 30 years in the house, we hired someone to plow the driveway and started to think about someone to help with the yard work come spring. On weekends, we began to explore what was out there in our area, there were so many choices, 55+ developments, apartments, ranch houses and town-homes. Developments with amenities and those without, first floor master bedrooms and second floor masters, finished basements and unfinished ones, storage areas and no storage at all, new construction and resales and the list went on. That is when we began to plan and not just talk about what we both wanted in this new phase of our lives. I have always loved to write and this blog will share how we navigated our way through our big changes.
